Chi Long, the legendary Chinese football coach and player who led Beijing Guoan to victory in the Chinese Super League (CSL) and became one of the most successful coaches in history, passed away on October 12th, 2021 at the age of 94.

Born on December 5th, 1926 in Wuhan, Hubei province, Chi Long began his coaching career in China when he was just 18 years old. He spent seven years as a coach for the Wuhan Yinzhou Football Club before joining the coaching staff of the Guangzhou Evergrande F.C. in 1957.

Chi Long’s tenure with the Evergrande F.C. was marked by his success and the team’s success in the CSL. In 1962, he helped the club win their first CSL title,Bundesliga Express which earned him the nickname "The King of the South." In 1964, he guided the club to another CSL title, this time with a record of 10 wins out of 11 games. He also won two league titles and three domestic cups during his tenure.

In addition to his coaching achievements, Chi Long was known for his philanthropy. He donated millions of yuan to various charities throughout his life, including the Children's Hospital of Shanghai and the Chinese Red Cross Society.

Chi Long passed away peacefully on October 12th after battling cancer for several months. His legacy will live on through the many players and fans who have followed his footsteps. His contributions to the sport of football will always be remembered, and he will forever be remembered as one of the greatest coaches of all time.
